| A review of it in
the free Metro on Monday 24th September gave it one out of five. We visited
it on Tuesday to try it out for ourselves. It is modern looking inside but still recognisable as a pub rather than being ultra trendy. Everything is a shade lighter than usual. The bar area and partions are a light oak rather than the usual darker colours. The walls are a plain magnolia but have the largest areas covered with large recently painted pieces of artwork by John Hassall. Not the usual old pictures of Manchester or advertising for cheap drinks. To break up the room the height of the ceiling varies as does the floor. Around the bar the floor is stone flagged. Away from the bar are a couple of carpetted areas with large leathers sofas in them. The music was coming from the MTv channel with a television also in the corner to see the videos. Not our personal choice for music but better than the techno we have heard in other places. There is also sky on the big screen mentioned. It seems like they will also be having live music on some nights. The beer. Theakstons (£1.65) and Old Speckled hen were on the handpumps. There was also John Smiths smooth, Fosters, Budweiser, Guinness and Strongbow. As well as an assortment of the bottled stuff in large refrigerated cabinets. A big disappointment was the lack of beer mats so the tables were ending up wet and sticky. It seemed reasonably busy for a Tuesday not just with students either. For our rating we give it |
