Welcome to the Thursday Pub Crawl pages sponsored by Zillion

For MBIRTLES we now have Ye Olde Nelson

Happy New Year for 2003:
Its a few weeks since we did the last Thursday pub crawl. but we are back now. Recently we have stopped working to the 80/20 rule and gone for it 100%. So we have no pub reviews but have visited/re visited plenty of places. Recently we have been to Bar Med, Wave, Athenaeum, Paramount, Square Albert, Lloyds, Forgery and Firkin, Rothwells etc.
A pint of Pedigree was £2.20 in Corbieres but in Rothwells its only £1.95. The beer has gone up in the City Arms as well. It cost £2.02 for a pint of Bombadier where it used to cost £1.98. The Square Albert was selling Pedigree the other week but the eight hand pumps across the bar has now been reduced to four.

The Retro Bar. On the corner of Sackville street and Charles street just by UMIST.

News :

On the Rothwells page are pictures of the bar and the ceiling!

There is now a picture of the newly opened The Springbok Bar on the page. We are not sure if they serve any cask beer, but they do have lager. The Paramount next door has a number of cask ales.

Our list has gone up from 134 to 152 pubs and bars. Not all of them are listed on the site but they will be added when possible.

If you have any suggestions for a pub to visit or have any comments about a particular pub then send an email to ThursdayPC@scottyweb.co.uk
Any information supplied will be treated with the strictest confidence unless we think otherwise!

The signs on the Crown and Cushion are still down but it still appears to be open. We suspect that the signs are being repainted because the paint on them was peeling badly.

The Salisbury Ale House
is open and we have had a visit. It has been renamed The Salsbury.

The Grand Central has had another coat of red paint so is now looking a lot smarter.
The Stage Door bar looks to be closed for a refurbishment now.
The Lower Turks Head
at Shudehill is going to be renovated into 5 flats and a wine bar.
'The Old Garratt' is now 'The Garratt' after a revamp.
There is a new link to the Stockport and South Manchester Camra web site.

Reviews of the Waldorf and Paddys Goose have been added.
Britons Protection and the Walkabout Bar. More should follow shortly.

We are not sure about the Temple Cafe Bar on Oxford street. It looked to be closed judging by the amount of paper which was around the entrance.

Despite various bribes, we are not going to reveal the name of the person who has a certain item of their underwear attached to the ceiling in the Ducie Bridge.

City Centre As well as 'The Map' is has been pointed out to us that there are maps conveniently placed on street corners throughout the City Centre. There should be no excuses for getting lost now.

We have been informed that the next edition of 'The Map' is going to be extended to cover a greater area so the Ducie Bridge may be included.

The Queens Arms. Not quite as grand as Rothwells last week. But they are in the Good Beer Guide 2001.

After our experiences last week we are going to visit Rothwells this week.

It is on Spring Gardens at the end of King Street.

The Salisbury, formerly The Salisbury Ale House, opened its doors at 5pm on Friday 26th October 2001.

So that people don't get lost and turn up late (no names mentioned). We now have a wonderful map of the City Centre by Andrew Taylor. The scale is 18 inches to the mile and shows a tremendous amount of detail. Its a lot lighter than carrying a laptop pc. We got a copy at Waterstones for £3.50 but it has been seen in many other shops.
You can just see the amount of detail which is on the map by looking at the map cover page on the right.

Two old ladies:
It's windy today.
No, it's Thursday
Yes, so am I. Lets have a cup of tea.

This is a small part of Portland street that dreams are made of. In this stretch of the street there are three pubs, chippy, butty shop, hair dressers, curry house, off licence and a massage parlour.
